01: Puerto Montt – Castro
Reception at the bus station in Castro and transfer to hotel
of your choice. An afternoon city tour will introduce you
to Chiloe's unique culture with its palafito architecture
(wooden houses built on stilts), hancrafted shipbuilding,
its Cathedral, declared a National Monument and a World
Heritage Site, residential neighborhoods, handicrafts market,
Museum of Modern Art, and unique wood-shingled architecture
of picturesque churches, schools and hotels.
Day 02: Castro - Dalcahue - Achao
After breakfast we set out on a full-day excursion on land
and water. We visit local farms, water mills and learn about
various forms of local navegation and shipbuilding. The
excursion also visits Chiloe's renown churches and chapels;
channels, islands, cliffs and beaches; and salmon fishing
operations. A visit to Dalcahue takes us to its church,
declared a World Heritage Site, a small but attractive museum
and a stroll along its interesting piers and shoreline.
We then cross over by ferry to the Island of Quinchao where
a visit to Curaco de Vélez shows us its traditional
turn of the century houses and a colony of rare and unusual
black-necked swans. After lunch in Achao (not included)
we visit the town's century-old church, also declared a
World Heritage Site. Return to Castro.
Day 03: Castro – Ancud – Chacao –
Puerto Montt
We'll get to know more about the discovery of Chiloe's archipelago,
its history, customs and traditions, wars and conquistas,
with a visit to the Museo Azul in Ancud and the San Antonio
Fort. After lunch (not included), we'll transfer to the
bus station to board the bus back to Puerto Montt.
